80 percent of Europeans are scared to death at the idea of picking up their mobile phone when they’re abroad. Often, they even prefer not to answer. And for good reason: some had very bad surprises when they returned home, discovering astronomic phone bills. But what good is it to abolish the borders in Europe if such additional costs remain for just picking up your phone or surfing the internet outside your country of residence? Luckily this is indeed a case where "Captain Europe" has done something concrete: Since 2007, prices for voice roaming fell by 91% on average in Europe. To achieve this, the European Commission fought hard with the telephone operators, which make a lot of money out or roaming. Will roaming charges ever be abolished completely?
